July 4th Weekend Campout- 3 nights, July 1-4 2017
Our July 4th campout this year will take us to Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California. We’ll be staying in a remote part of the park at Butte Lake. This area hosts a "collection of geologic formations of raw and otherworldly beauty" including Cinder Cone, the Painted Dunes and the Fantastic Lava Beds. From this relatively primitive campground, we'll enjoy a variety of daily activities such as hikes to 8338' Prospect Peak, 6900' Cinder Cone (an impressive volcanic feature), 10+ mile lake loops, boating, fishing, and many shorter rambles.
GLS camping trips also feature camaraderie around GLS’s new propane fire pit (and limited campfires), a potluck dinner on Saturday evening, and an option for Follies (skits and home-grown entertainment), game night, and/or a dance party.
We hope you will join us for what promises to be a wonderful extended weekend in a magical location.
In fact, you can join us early - Katrina got the campsite starting June 30 - we'll split costs among those interested.
Cost: $50.00 per person for GLS members; (please be mindful of $10/$50 cancellation fees - see policy).
Nonmembers can register after joining GLS at this link for $15 for a one year membership.
Additional entry fees for the National Park are $20 per vehicle.
Note: The campground is accessed via a six-mile gravel road and does not have potable water, showers, stores, or boat rentals. It does have flush toilets and tap water for cooking and washing. For more information see campground description and campground map.
